That’s what John Williams said after leading the Marine Band in rehearsal on Saturday, July 15, during a closed rehearsal with the renowned conductor in preparation for the Marine Band’s 225th Anniversary concert taking place at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The legendary composer conducted the band through several of his own works in a closed rehearsal which took place in the John Philip Sousa Band Hall at Marine Barracks Annex in Washington, D.C.

Marine Chamber Orchestra Performs Masterworks and World Première

This Sunday, April 16, at 2 p.m., the Marine Chamber Orchestra will perform a free concert featuring two masterworks by composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Jean Sibelius, as well as the world première of young composer SiHyun Uhm, winner of the Marine Band’s inaugural Call for Scores competition. The concert, conducted by Col. Jason K. Fettig, will take place at Northern Virginia Community College’s Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Alexandria. No tickets are required and free parking is available in the adjacent garage.

April 2 Concert - "Sacred Hymns, Songs, and Sounds"

This Sunday, April 2 at 2 p.m., “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band presents the concert “Sacred Hymns, Songs, and Sounds.” This concert’s program features a wide variety of pieces spanning from Sir William Walton’s Coronation March, “Crown Imperial” to Caroline Shaw’s contemporary work originally composed for choir, and the swallow, to David Maslanka’s monumental Symphony No. 4. In typical Marine Band fashion, a march by John Philip Sousa will also be performed, in this case “President Garfield’s Inauguration.”

In a surprising final outcome for Sousa’s March Mania 2023, the funeral march “The Honored Dead” laid to rest “Nobles of the Mystic Shrine” with a score of 8,356 to 7,157. The United States Marine Band paid tribute to this championship victory with a live performance of the piece on March 28, 2023 in John Philip Sousa Band Hall in Washington, D.C.
