Marine Barracks Annex, Washington, D.C. -- Congratulations are in order! This week, Master Sergeant Steven Williams auditioned for and won "The President's Own" United States Marine Band’s Drum Major position.
As 41st Drum Major, Williams will serve as the senior enlisted member of the unit and oversee the band’s ceremonial drill, military decorum, and uniform appearance. He will be charged with directing the band in ceremonial commitments, including the inaugural parade, and will regularly lead the band in review for the President of the United States, heads of state, and international dignitaries as well as Full Honors Funerals at Arlington National Cemetery, Friday Evening Parades at Marine Barracks Washington, and other special ceremonies and patriotic openers throughout the National Capital Region.
Over the next year, Williams will benefit from current Drum Major Master Gunnery Sgt. Duane King’s integrity, example, counsel, and steadfast leadership as the Marine Band makes this important transition.
