Biography of Marine Band Director Louis Schneider

Louis SchnneiderLouis Schneider was born in Milan, Italy and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on Sept. 2, 1873 as the 16th Leader of the U.S. Marine Band. Prior to joining the band he was a composer. Under his leadership the Marine Band attained such popularity that its service was sought for a number of prominent engagements, among them being the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876.
