Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. Eric M. Smith presents John Williams with a framed Honorary Marine Certificate. Renowned Composer and Conductor John Williams was given the title of Honorary Marine on July 16, 2023. The presentation took place during the United States Marine Band's 225th anniversary concert at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, which featured Williams conducting his music with the band. Williams is best known for crafting the iconic scores to classic films including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, and more. Over the past two decades, he has forged a strong bond with the Marine Band, sharing his extraordinary musical talents with the group time and again. The title of Honorary Marine was conferred by former Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps General David H. Berger, and was presented by Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps General Eric M. Smith.
