At a commissioning ceremony held on Jan. 28, 2022, 1st Lt. Darren Lin was officially announced as Assistant Director of "The President's Own" United States Marine Band. 1st Lt. Lin returns the first salute rendered to him by Marine Band percussionist SSgt. Michael Hopkins. The first salute is an old U.S. military tradition in which newly commissioned officers give a silver dollar to the person from whom they receive their very first salute.
