Tuesday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m. - The Marine Band returns to San Antonio with a special performance at 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 27, in the Lila Cockrell Theatre as part of the Texas Bandmasters Association 71st Annual Convention. The program will begin with John Philip Sousa’s march, “Sabre and Spurs,” followed by the world première of Peter Boyer’s Fanfare, Hymn, and Finale and Dr. Frank Ticheli guest conducting his own Clarinet Concerto. The concert will also include Percy Grainger’s Lincolnshire Posy and works by Jonathan Leshnoff, Leonard Bernstein, John Williams, and Miklós Rózsa. In addition, members of the Marine Band will perform a chamber recital at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 28, in the convention center’s room 214CD featuring several small ensembles. Both concerts are free, open to the public, and no tickets are required and take place in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
