On June 26, 2014, the Marine Band conducted a Drum Major relief and appointment ceremony, officiated by Director Col. Michael J. Colburn in the John Philip Sousa Band Hall at Marine Barracks Washington, D.C. Drum Major Master Gunnery Sgt. William L. Browne (pictured) was relieved by Gunnery Sgt. Duane F. King, making him the 40th Drum Major of “The President’s Own.” Immediately following the ceremony, Browne retired after 25 years in the Marine Corps. His retirement ceremony was officiated by the 35th Commandant of the Marine Corps, General James F. Amos.
