On Jan. 12, 2014, the Marine Chamber Orchestra performed a concert titled “Happy Viennese New Year!” at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Alexandria, Va. The program was patterned from the 75-year old tradition established by Austrian conductor Clemens Krauss. The New Year’s programs include waltzes, polkas, quick-steps, and operetta overtures composed by Johann Strauss I, Johann Strauss II (The Waltz King), Josef Strauss, and their contemporaries of the 19th century.
