In honor of the 40th anniversary of women joining the Marine Band, “The President’s Own” presents a special recital on Nov. 24. 2013, showcasing the women of today’s Marine Band performing music composed almost entirely by women. The program includes Libby Larsen’s Brazen Overture and Yellow Jersey, Joan Tower’s Platinum Spirals, and Jennifer Higdon’s Steeley Pause. In true Marine fashion, the program concluded with Louis Saverino’s March of the Women Marines, conducted by Assistant Director Capt. Michelle A. Rakers.
