Celebrating 50 Years of Women in the Marine Band

On March 7, 1973, French horn player Ruth Johnson successfully won a Marine Band audition and became the first female to enlist in “The President’s Own.” In honor of 50 years of women in the Marine Band, two concerts will be held this weekend focusing on the work of female composers and arrangers, and highlighting some of the band’s many talented female musicians.
