Sunday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. - The annual Sousa spectacular has kicked off the Marine Band’s concert season for more than a decade. This year’s Sousa concert returns to its roots and is comprised mostly of music by “The March King” himself. The program is chock full of a wide variety of musical gems and lively encores and includes several popular marches chosen from the Marine Band’s soon-to-be-released second volume of free online recordings and sheet music from the multi-year project “The Complete Marches of John Philip Sousa.” Volume 1 of the project, containing Sousa’s first 17 marches, is currently available for free download on the Marine Band website at www.marineband.marines.mil. The concert, which will take place at George Mason University's Center for the Arts Concert Hall in Fairfax, Va., is free and will also stream live at www.marineband.marines.mil.
