Marine Chamber Orchestra: Haydn's Drum Roll - Sunday, April 14 at 2 p.m. -Since its 1795 première, Joseph Haydn’s 103rd Symphony, nicknamed The Drum Roll after the long and ominous timpani roll with which it begins, remains a favorite of his impressive 104 total symphonies. Brilliantly constructed, the four-movement work culminates in an unflagging, energetic finale based on a single theme and is filled with drama and excitement. The program also includes Johann Sebastian Bach’s masterful Orchestral Suite No. 4 in D, BWV 1069 and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 2 in E-flat, K. 417, featuring soloist Gunnery Sgt. Jennifer Paul. A brass quartet will offer pre-concert music in the lobby beginning at 1:15 p.m. The concert, which takes place at Northern Virginia Community College's Schlesinger Concert Hall, is free and no tickets are required.
