2016 Concerto Competition for High School Students

“The President’s Own” is pleased to announce that the following seven high school students will participate at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, in the final round of the Marine Band’s Concerto Competition:

Horn: James Bryant of Phenix City, AL
Oboe: Olivia Johann of Centreville, VA
Flute: Alejandro Lombo of Miramar, FL
Flute: Mei Stone of Waco, TX
Percussion: Jackson Riffle of Pleasant Hill, OH
Trombone: Ethan Shrier of Potomac, MD
Trumpet: Joshua Weckerly of Hatfield, PA

Full Program

The recital will take place at the John Philip Sousa Band Hall at Marine Barracks Annex located at 7th and K Streets in Southeast, Washington, D.C.  The winner will receive a $2,500 scholarship from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation and perform in concert with the Marine Band at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 10 at Northern Virginia Community College’s Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Alexandria.

The concert is free and tickets are not required; light refreshments will be served. Free parking is available under the overpass on 7th Street, and the facility is Metro and handicapped accessible. The performance will be streamed live at www.marineband.marines.mil.
