This week the Marine Band’s contemporary country and pop music ensemble, “Free Country,” will perform at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26, on the west terrace of the U.S. Capitol and Thursday, Aug. 27, at the Sylvan Theater on the grounds of the Washington Monument. The ensemble will also perform at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 29, in the plaza at National Harbor, as part of National Harbor’s Military Summer Concert Series. The performances are free and no tickets are required. Patrons are encouraged to bring folding chairs or blankets to sit on as there is no permanent seating available.

The eleven-piece band led by Master Gunnery Sgt. Peter Wilson features modern and classic commercial hits by artists including Bryan Adams, Stevie Wonder, Blake Shelton, Kellie Pickler, Lady Antebellum, Van Halen, Tim McGraw, Meghan Trainor, Maroon 5, and Bruno Mars.

“Free Country” delivers shows that include humor and reflection while always paying tribute to our men and women in uniform through songs about the American experience. The concerts are free with no tickets required, open to the public, and will be performed weather permitting.

“We are looking forward to performing on the Mall and at the National Harbor,” Wilson said. “It’s an opportunity for us to share our music with several audiences while enjoying the beautiful backdrop of our national treasures and the Potomac River along with such a thriving community.”

For concerts at the Capitol, patrons may take the red line to Union Station or the blue, orange, or silver lines to the Capitol South station. For concerts at the Sylvan Theater, take the blue, orange, or silver lines to the Smithsonian station. The concerts are free but weather permitting, and programming is subject to change. Inclement weather announcements will be made by 6 p.m. on the band’s Concert Information Line at (202) 433-4011 and on the Marine Band’s website and social media pages.
