CONCERTO COMPETITION FINALS Saturday, Feb. 14 | 2 pm High school students from all over the country applied to the Marine Band’s 2015 Concerto Competition, and six applicants were chosen to compete in the final round presented as a recital open to the public. The winner will receive a $2,500 cash prize from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation and perform his or her solo in concert with the Marine Band on March 22. Light refreshments will be available following the recital. CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES Sunday, Feb. 15 | 2 pm Coordinated by trumpeter/cornetist Master Sgt. David Haglund, the program will include various ensembles from string quartet and brass quintet to duos with piano for xylophone and trumpet. These free concerts will be held at Sousa Hall at the Marine Barracks Annex in Washington, D.C. Both events also stream live at www.marineband.marines.mil.

2015 Concerto Competition for High School Students

“The President’s Own” is pleased to announce that the following six high school students will participate at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, in the final round of the Marine Band’s Concerto Competition:

Samantha White, flute, from St. Charles, Ill.

Taiga Ultan, flute, from Brooklyn, N.Y.

Allen Chang, clarinet, from Ann Arbor, Mich.

Chad Lilley, alto saxophone, from Olney, Md.

Joe Broom, euphonium, from McLean, Va.

Anthony Brattoli, tuba, from Tinley Park, Ill.

Full Program

The recital will take place at the John Philip Sousa Band Hall at Marine Barracks Annex located at 7th and K Streets in Southeast, Washington, D.C.  The winner will receive a $2,500 cash prize from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation and perform in concert with the Marine Band at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 22 at Northern Virginia Community College’s Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Alexandria.

The concert is free and tickets are not required; light refreshments will be served. Free parking is available under the overpass on 7th Street, and the facility is Metro and handicapped accessible. The performed will be streamed live at www.marineband.marines.mil.
