Looking for a surefire way to jumpstart your holiday spirit? Join “The President’s Own” for a Holiday Sing-A-Long extravaganza! The performance will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. Be sure to bring your best caroling voice and get ready for contagious holiday cheer. This festive night will be fun for the whole family!
The tradition of the Holiday Sing-A-Long began in 1968 when Wolf Trap founder Catherine Filene Shouse opened her farmhouse to the community to sing carols together. One year later, the gathering grew to include “The President’s Own” as a welcomed instrumental addition to the a cappella carolers. By 1972, the event existed as we know it today: under the newly completed covering of the Filene Center, singing alongside family, friends and neighbors.
The program includes holiday classics such as Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride,” John Williams’ A Home Alone Christmas, and Walter Afanasieff and Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas,” sung by Staff Sgt. Hannah Davis.
“‘All I Want for Christmas’ is such a classic Christmas tune,” Davis said. “It's so catchy and brings out the holiday spirit. I think the audience will love the iconic intro, as well as the fun high notes at the end!”
Plus, listeners can expect to hear Randol Alan Bass' The Night Before Christmas narrated by Master Gunnery Sgt. Kevin Bennear and many more sing-a-long carols performed with local choirs.
“My favorite part about the Holiday Sing-A-long is the unity it brings to our audiences,” Davis said. “No matter our backgrounds, we all can come together for a few hours and enjoy singing holiday music at the top of our lungs!”
Guests are encouraged to bring jingle bells for a “Jingle-A-Long” competition and candles to light during the peaceful closing tune, Silent Night. The performance is free. Tickets are not required, but they are strongly encouraged, and you can register here.
