Marine Barracks Annex, D.C. -- This week, the Marine Band returns to the National Mall for outdoor concerts of light classical pops, with its new soprano joining in on the long-standing tradition of performing summer concerts on the Capitol’s west terrace. Conducted and programmed by Associate Director Captain Darren Lin, the free concerts will take place at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 12 on the west steps of the U.S. Capitol, and 7 p.m., Thursday, June 13 at Sylvan Theater, located steps below the Washington Monument.
“I’m excited to return to the Capitol steps with my colleagues and make music in these historic venues,” Lin said. “There are some old favorites like Georges Bizet’s ‘Habanera’ from Carmen, featuring our soprano vocalist Staff Sgt. Hannah Davis, and the audience will get to hear our take on the famous third movement of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6.”

The concert will begin with Julius Fučík’s exhilarating March, “Florentiner,” Opus 214, and also feature Staff Sgt. Claire Ross performing Horn Concerto in C minor, Opus 8, by Franz Strauss.
