Marine Barracks Annex, Washington, D.C. -- This week “The President’s Own” kicks off its 2022 summer season with a band concert on Thursday, June 2 at 7:30 p.m. at John Philip Sousa Band Hall in Washington, D.C. Conducted by Assistant Director 1st Lt. Darren Lin, Star Wars lovers won’t want to miss this performance! The program features the Main Title from Star Wars and Imperial March from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. And Bing Crosby lovers will hear Marine Band baritone vocalist Master Gunnery Sgt. Kevin Bennear sing a medley of some of Crosby’s most popular tunes, including “You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby,” “Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep,” and the ever-optimistic “Blue Skies.” Other highlights of the concert include George Gershwin’s Cuban Overture, Gustav Holst’s Suite No. 1 in E-flat, and John Williams’ “The Tale of Viktor Navorski” from The Terminal, featuring clarinet soloist Gunnery Sgt. Shannon Kiewitt.

This summer, Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra concerts will take place throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Attendees will hear classic and familiar works by Percy Grainger, John Philip Sousa, American composer John Williams, and more. Enjoy the band performing the Main Title from Star Wars and "Adventures on Earth" from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the Marine Band vocalists on Broadway tunes and The Great American Songbook, as well as the orchestra performing works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Aaron Copland, and other great composers.
