On May 16, 2022, a pair of new maces manufactured by Dalman and Narborough Regimental Mace Company were delivered from Birmingham, England, to the United States Marine Band in Washington, D.C. A small presentation ceremony was held in John Philip Sousa Band Hall at Marine Barracks Washington. Drum Major Master Gunnery Sgt. Duane King, Director Col. Jason K. This week the Marine Band will conclude its summer series with a program chock full of patriotic favorites and familiar works for wind band by great composers such as John Williams, Percy Grainger, and John Philip Sousa—the March King. Conducted by Assistant Director Major Ryan J. Nowlin, the free concert will take place at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31, at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Va.“I wanted to end the summer with a feel-good program that resonated especially with Marine Corps families,” Nowlin said, “With the backdrop of the extraordinary museum, it should be a memorable experience.” - This week the Marine Band will conclude its summer series with a program chock full of patriotic favorites and familiar works for wind band by great composers such as John Williams, Percy Grainger, and John Philip Sousa—the March King. The Marine Chamber Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center in Alexandria, Va. In addition to the Ronin 3 Tribute, the free concert will also include A Jazz Symphony by George Antheil, Emmanuel Sejourne’s Concerto for Marimba and Strings featuring soloist Master Sgt. Jonathan Bisesi, Aaron Copland’s Music for Movies and the world première of Joseph Turrin’s piece in memory of Bramwell Tovey, O Earth, O Sky, you are mine to roam. Conducted by Assistant Director 1st Lt. Fettig will conduct “The President’s Own” in concert this week in two performances highlighting brass soloists and a lineup almost exclusively comprised of 20th century composers. The program begins with a circus march by Karl L. King followed by a brass concerto featuring soloists Master Gunnery Sgt. Mark Jenkins on euphonium and Master Sgt. Hilary Harding on French horn. Mezzo-soprano vocalist Master Sgt. Sara Sheffield will also solo on the program, singing Harold Arlen’s “Lose That Long Face” from the 1954 film A Star is Born featuring Judy Garland.
