Clarinetist Michael Miller of Sarasota, Fla. joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in October 2024.
Staff Sgt. Miller began his musical journey at age 11. After graduating from Lakewood Ranch High School in Bradenton, Fla., in 2018, he earned a bachelor’s degree in clarinet performance in 2022 from the Eastman School of Music, studying under Michael Wayne. He then went on to complete a master's in clarinet performance in 2024 at Rice University, where he studied with Richie Hawley.
Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” Miller performed with regional orchestras and ensembles in New York, Texas, Florida, and the D.C. area. He received awards in national and international solo and chamber music competitions, including the Vandoren Emerging Artist Competition, Verdehr Trio Award, and the American Prize Competition in Chamber Music Performance. Miller has attended several summer festivals, including Interlochen Arts Academy, Eastern Music Festival, National Orchestra Institute, National Repertory Orchestra, and the Music Academy of the West.
As a member of “The President’s Own,” Miller performs with the Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra at the White House in the Washington metropolitan area and across the country during the band’s national concert tour.
