Trombonist Staff Sergeant Lukas Helsel of Sewickley, Pa., joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in March 2024.
Staff Sgt. Helsel began his musical instruction on trombone at age 9 and graduated in 2019 from Avonworth High School in Pittsburgh, Pa. He then attended The New England Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Norman Bolter and James Markey of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Prior to joining the band, Staff Sgt. Helsel was the acting Associate Principal Trombone in The Florida Orchestra and substituted with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops Orchestra, and the Boston Ballet.
Staff Sgt. Helsel performs with the Marine Band at the White House, in the Washington, D.C. area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour.
