Recording Engineer
Staff Sgt. Jacob Cypher

Recording Engineer Staff Sgt. Jacob Cypher of Butler, Pa., joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in October 2023.

Staff Sgt. Cypher began his musical training on tenor saxophone at age 9 and guitar at age 10. After graduating in 2015 from Butler Area High School, he attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and earned a bachelor’s degree in music with a focus on music technology. During his time in at Duquesne University, he studied under Thomas Kitka, Jesse Naus and Jay Dudt.

Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” Staff Sgt. Cypher worked in audio-visual support for corporate, academic and live entertainment events. He also performed with the Duquesne Guitar Ensemble and Aaron Shearer Classical Guitar Ensemble.

As Recording Engineer, Staff Sgt. Cypher records various Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra concerts and sessions and provides sound reinforcement for performances. In addition, he is responsible for the preservation of the band’s recorded archive collections.
