Horn Player Staff Sergeant Emma Shaw of Tampa, Fla., joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in August 2023.
Staff Sgt. Shaw began her musical training on horn at age 12. After graduating in 2017 from Blake High School, she attended the Eastman School of Music where she earned a bachelor’s in horn performance in 2021 and studied under W.P. Kurau, Maura McCune Corvington, Steve Laifer and Jacek Muzyk. She also attended Northwestern University where she was a student of Gail Williams and Jonathan Boen.
Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” Staff Sgt. Shaw performed with the Rochester Philharmonic, Orlando Philharmonic, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, Symphoria and regional orchestras in Florida.
Staff Sgt. Shaw performs with the Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra at the White House, in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour.
