Trumpet and Cornet Player Staff Sergeant Brent Proseus of Rockford, Mich., joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in May 2022.

Staff Sgt. Proseus began his musical instruction on piano at age 5 and trumpet at age 10. After graduating high school in 2015 he earned a bachelor’s degree in music performance from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo in 2020. He then completed a master’s degree in jazz studies in 2022 from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). His notable teachers included Gregg Good from Cornerstone University, Robert White from Western Michigan University and Scott Belck from CCM.

Prior to joining the Marine Band, Staff Sgt. Proseus performed for a cruise line, and with a number of ensembles, including the Billings Symphony Orchestra in Montana, Battle Creek Symphony in Michigan, Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Jazz Orchestra, and Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra.

Staff Sgt. Proseus performs with the Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra at the White House, in the Washington, D.C., area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour.
