Librarian Staff Sergeant Tammy Lau of Hong Kong joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in April 2022.
Staff Sgt. Lau began her musical training on piano at age 5, flute at age 9 and oboe at age 15. In 2017 she graduated from Fiorello H. Laguardia High School and then remained in New York to attend the Mannes School of Music where she earned a bachelor’s degree in music theory in 2021. Her notable instructors included Lynne Rogers, David Loeb and Robert Cuckson.
Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” Staff Sgt. Lau was a library fellow for Apex Ensemble in Montclair, N.J., and an ensemble librarian at the Mannes School of Music, Interlochen Center for the Arts and the Metropolitan Opera.
As a Marine Band Librarian, Staff Sgt. Lau prepares music for performances by the Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra, serves as the music acquisition specialist, and assists with maintaining the music library and historic archives.
