Staff Sgt. Angelo Quail

Clarinetist Staff Sergeant Angelo Quail of Ann Arbor, Mich., joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in April 2022.

Staff Sgt. Quail began his musical training on clarinet at age 10. After graduating in 2009 from Dexter High School in Dexter, Mich., he attended the University of Michigan (U-M) in Ann Arbor, where he earned a bachelor’s degree of music in clarinet performance and a bachelor’s of arts in German in 2013. In 2015 he earned a master’s degree of music from the University of Southern California (USC), and in 2018 he completed an artist diploma from The Colburn School, also in Los Angeles. His instructors included Daniel Gilbert at U-M and Yehuda Gilad at USC and The Colburn School.

Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” Staff Sgt. Quail performed with a number of ensembles, including the Baltimore and Milwaukee Symphony Orchestras; the Jacksonville, Spokane, and Pacific Symphonies; the Cleveland Orchestra; and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He was also a New World Symphony fellow, and performed on studio recordings for the Netflix series “Chef’s Table” and the BBC’s “Blue Planet.”

Staff Sgt. Quail performs with the Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra at the White House, in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour.
