Staff Sgt. Jeffrey Grant

Percussionist Staff Sergeant Jeffrey Grant of Ann Arbor, Mich., joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in February 2022.

Staff Sgt. Grant began his musical training on piano at age 7 and percussion at age 10. After graduating in 2006 from Huron High School in Ann Arbor, he attended Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, where he earned a bachelor's of music in percussion performance in 2010. In 2012 he earned a master's of music in percussion performance from the University of Michigan (U-M) in Ann Arbor, and in 2014 a graduate certificate in percussion performance from the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. His teachers include John Dorsey at Eastern Michigan University; Joseph Gramley, Jonathan Ovalle, Ian Ding, and Brian Jones at U-M; and Joseph Pereira and Jim Babor at USC.

Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” Staff Sgt. Grant was a member of the Long Beach Symphony and regularly performed timpani and percussion with the LA Phil. He has also performed with a number of other ensembles, including the Detroit, Toronto, Tucson, Santa Barbara, and Hawai’i Symphony Orchestras; the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra; and the New World Symphony.

Staff Sgt. Grant performs with the Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra at the White House, in the Washington, D.C., area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour.
