Arranger Gunnery Sergeant Scott Ninmer of Taylorville, Ill., joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in September 2014.
Gunnery Sgt. Ninmer began his musical instruction on piano at age 4, trombone at age 8, and in composing and arranging at age 12. After graduating in 2007 from Taylorville High School, he earned a bachelor’s degree in jazz trombone performance in 2011 from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana (UI). In 2013, he earned a master’s degree in jazz composition from the Manhattan School of Music in New York. He studied trombone with Jim Pugh of UI and composition with Jim McNeely of the Manhattan School and Jonathan Tunick, the Tony, Emmy, Grammy, and Academy Award-winning Broadway orchestrator.
Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” Gunnery Sgt. Ninmer was a freelance composer, arranger, and copyist in New York.
Gunnery Sgt. Ninmer is responsible for the production of music that encompasses many styles and instrumental combinations, many of which are performed at the White House, in the Washington, D.C., area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour.
