Horn Player Gunnery Sergeant Timothy Huizenga of Lansing, Ill., joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in July 2014.
Gunnery Sgt. Huizenga began his musical training on piano at age 7 and horn at age 10. After graduating in 2003 from Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, Ill., he attended the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in Bloomington where he earned a bachelor’s degree in music in 2007 and a performer diploma in horn performance in 2008. He studied with Myron Bloom of the Cleveland Orchestra, Jeff Nelsen of the Canadian Brass, and Wolfgang Vladar of the Vienna Philharmonic.
Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” Gunnery Sgt. Huizenga served in the United States Army Field Band at Ft. Meade, Md., for six years and was the principal horn of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic.
Gunnery Sgt. Huizenga performs with the Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra at the White House, in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour.
