Master Sgt. Brian Turnmire

Trumpet and Cornet Player Master Sergeant Brian Turnmire of Flintstone, Ga., joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in January 2003.

Master Sgt. Turnmire began his musical instruction at age 6. Upon graduating from Ridgeland High School in Georgia in 1997 where he studied trumpet under Tina Erickson, he attended the University of Georgia in Athens, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in music education in 2002 and studied with Fred Mills.

Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” Master Sgt. Turnmire was principal trumpet for the Chattanooga Symphony in Tennessee.

Master Sgt. Turnmire performs with the Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra at the White House, in the Washington, D.C., area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour. In 2011 he was featured as a tour soloist on Herbert L. Clarke’s “The Southern Cross.” He also performs guitar with various small ensembles within the Marine Band.
