Trumpet and Cornet Player Master Sergeant Robert Singer of Reston, Va., joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in August 2004.
Master Sgt. Singer began his musical instruction at age 4. Upon graduating in 1995 from South Lakes High School in Reston, he completed two years of study at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and then transferred to the University of Michigan (U-M) in Ann Arbor, where in 1999 he earned a bachelor’s degree in music. In 2002, he earned a master’s degree in music from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. His instructors include Charles Daval of the U-M, Barbara Butler of Northwestern University, and Steve Hendrickson, a former principal trumpet with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C.
Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” Master Sgt. Singer was a member of the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra in Ohio. He also taught privately and freelanced in Cleveland and performed with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in Ohio, the New World Symphony in Miami, and the Chicago Chamber Musicians.
Master Sgt. Singer performs with the Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra at the White House, in the Washington, D.C., area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour.
