Saxophonist Staff Sergeant Connor Mikula of Holland, Mich., joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in May 2019.

Staff Sgt. Miklua began his musical training on piano at age 5 and saxophone at age 11. After graduating from West Ottawa High School in Holland, Mich. in 2010, he attended Michigan State University (MSU) in East Lansing where he earned a bachelor’s in saxophone performance in 2015. In 2017 he received his master’s from the University of Michigan (U-M) in Ann Arbor, and in 2021 he completed his doctorate of musical arts in saxophone performance at MSU. At MSU, Staff Sgt. Mikula studied under Joe Luloff, and at U-M he studied with Timothy McAllister.

Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” Staff Sgt. Mikula was a featured soloist with the Lima Symphony Orchestra and University of Michigan Symphony Band.

Staff Sgt. Mikula performs with the Marine Band at the White House, in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour.
