Operation Overloard Remembrance Ceremony
On Wednesday, June 5, 2019, the Friends of the National World War II Memorial hosted a Remembrance Ceremony to honor all those who died during Operation Overlord (June 6–Aug. 30, 1944). As part of the ceremony, names were read of those who gave their lives and were buried at Normandy American Cemetery in France. Unfortunately, there is no complete list of all those who died during Operation Overlord. However, names were read of those identified through the Normandy American Cemetery. A Marine Band musician sounded “Taps” for the ceremony. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Gunnery Sgt. Rachel Ghadiali/released)
