Marine Band Concert: Weird Wild Stuff
Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 - Over the past few centuries, composers have become ever bolder and more creative in how they use music to represent the world around them. It has often been the composers who dared to try something new in their works that are best remembered. In the process, a mash-up of artistic ideals from seemingly disparate worlds has ensued, and this program highlights a few composers who have not always chosen the road well-traveled. The performance includes Leonard Bernstein’s Prelude, Fugue and Riffs, featuring clarinet soloist Gunnery Sgt. William Bernier, and David Rakowski's Ten of a Kind, a finalist for the 2002 Pulitzer Prize in music. The concert will also feature selections by Charles Ives, Jonathan Newman, and Ottorino Respighi. The concert is free and open to the public. The Rachel M. schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts center, NOVA is located at 3001 Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA; parking for $6
