Orchestra to Perform Italian and American Program: Includes Recorder and Inner Demons
June 13, 2016 — The Marine Chamber Orchestra will begin its Summer Orchestra Series at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 18 at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center at Northern Virginia Community College in Alexandria. Conducted by Director Lieutenant Col. Jason K. Summer Fare Gets Jazzed This Week
June 13, 2016 — This week’s summer fare performances will feature evenings of jazz music, as the Marine Jazz Ensemble performs at 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 15 on the west terrace of the U.S. Capitol and at 8 p.m., Thursday, June 16 at the Sylvan Theater, on the grounds of the Washington Monument. Coordinated by trumpeter Master Sgt. Daniel Orban and double bassist Gunnery Sgt. Eric Sabo, the ensemble will perform a collection of jazz standards and favorites, from the slow, sultry sounds of Tommy Wolf’s “Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most” to the toe-tapping groove of Dizzy Gillespie and Frank Paparelli’s “Blue ‘N’ Boogie.” MORE

June 8 and 9 Summer Fare Performances Feature the Great American Songbook
June 6, 2016 — This week’s Summer Fare performances at 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 8 and 8 p.m., Thursday, June 9 will bring musical duos to the fore and will be conducted by one of the Marine Band’s own, guitar player Master Sgt. Alan Prather. Prather’s performance is the culmination of the band’s Conductor Training Program, which gives musicians the opportunity to study conducting, receive coaching from current and former Marine Band Directors and leaders in the field, and ultimately lead the band in concert.
