Come experience a Washington, D.C., musical extravaganza as “The President’s Own” once again marks the beginning of summer with a concert at Wolf Trap on Memorial Day weekend. This special program is always packed with great American music, from rousing marches and patriotic classics to dazzling solos and the traditional performance of Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s iconic 1812 Overture. A highlight of this year’s concert will be a brand new revue of Lerner and Loewe’s classical musical “My Fair Lady,” which just this past year enjoyed a spectacular revival on Broadway. As always, this Memorial Day musical tribute is capped with one of the best fireworks displays of the year. Chamber Music Series Concert - Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m. - The Chamber Music Series concert will feature Johannes Brahms' Piano Quartet No. 2 in A, Opus 26 and Dvorak's Piano Quintet No. 2 in A, Opus 81. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will take place at John Philip Sousa Band Hall at the Marine Barracks Annex in Washington, DC. The concert will live stream at youtube.com/usmarineband.
Marine Chamber Orchestra: Beginnings and Endings - Sunday, May 12 at 2 p.m.- This conductorless concert will highlight great works by composers at both the beginning and ending of their musical journeys, including Washingtonian Alistair Coleman, a young composer at the beginning of a promising career. Also, guest piano soloist Roman Rabinovich will join the orchestra to perform Beethoven’s Emperor piano concerto, the composer’s final work for piano and his most musically evolved. Pre-concert lecture will take place at 1:15 p.m. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will take place at Schlesinger Concert Hall at Northern Virginia Community College in Alexandria.
