Master Sergeant Leslye Barrett

Co-principal oboe Master Sergeant Leslye Barrett joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in February 1997. She was appointed section leader in December 2004. MSgt Barrett began her musical training at age 3 and graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Mich., in 1990. In 1994 she earned a bachelor of arts degree in performance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas and in 1996 a master of music degree in performance from Arizona State University in Tempe. 

Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” MSgt Barrett was a member of the Quintessence Chamber Ensemble in Phoenix, and performed with the Phoenix Symphony, the Arizona Opera in Phoenix, and the Dallas Wind Symphony.

MSgt Barrett’s solos with “The President’s Own” include Johann Wilhelm Hertel’s Concerto in E-flat for Trumpet and Oboe, Ottorino Respighi’s Concerto a cinque, John Corigliano’s Oboe Concerto, and the Concerto Grosso for Woodwind Quartet and Wind Orchestra by Heitor Villa-Lobos. She frequently leads clinics while on tour with the band and performed at the International Double Reed Society Convention in 2006, 2009, and 2011. In 2009, she was also a featured guest artist on Double Reed Day at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green.

Staff Sergeant Trevor Mowry

Co-principal oboe Staff Sergeant Trevor Mowry joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in June 2012. SSgt Mowry began his musical training on piano at age 5 and oboe at age 9. Upon graduating from Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn in 2007, he attended the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester in New York where he studied with Richard Killmer and earned a bachelor’s degree in music in 2011. He pursued graduate studies with Robert Atherholt at Rice University in Houston and also studied with Deb Stevenson at Wheaton College in Illinois.

Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” SSgt Mowry was guest principal oboe with the Houston Grand Opera, principal oboe with the Wheaton Municipal Band in Illinois, and a freelance musician. In 2010, he won the Eastman School of Music’s annual Concerto Competition. 

Staff Sergeant Joseph DeLuccio

Oboist/English horn player Staff Sergeant Joseph DeLuccio joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in January 2005. SSgt DeLuccio began his musical training on piano at age 7 and oboe at age 13. Upon graduation in 1995 from Vernon Township High School, he attended Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music in Berea, Ohio, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in oboe performance in 1999. In 2001, SSgt DeLuccio earned a master’s degree in oboe performance from DePaul University in Chicago. He has pursued doctoral studies at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Mark Ostoich. His instructors included Elizabeth Camus of the Cleveland Orchestra; Michael Henoch, assistant principal oboe of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; John de Lancie of the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado; and Jan Eberle of the Chautauqua Music Institute in Chautauqua, N.Y.

Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” SSgt DeLuccio performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Concertante di Chicago, the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra in Highland Heights, Ky., the Elgin Symphony Orchestra in Illinois; and The Louisville Orchestra in Kentucky. He also attended the Sarasota Music Festival in Florida and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.

Staff Sergeant Tessa Vinson

Oboe/English hornist Staff Sergeant Tessa Vinson joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in October 2008. SSgt Vinson began her musical training at age 8. Upon graduating from Santa Monica High School in 2001, she attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she studied with Stuart Horne of the Los Angeles Opera. In 2005, SSgt Vinson earned a bachelor’s degree in music from the Manhattan School of Music in New York. She continued her education at the Manhattan School of Music, and earned a master’s degree in orchestral performance in 2007. Her instructors include David Weiss of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Robert Botti and Joseph Robinson of the Manhattan School of Music.

Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” SSgt Vinson performed with the New York City Opera, The Aeros Quintet, and the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas. She also held a residency at the 92nd Street Y’s Music Unlocked Project and served as the associate oboe teacher for the Manhattan School of Music.
