On April 8, 2017, “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band performed for the memorial service for Lt. Gen. Lawrence F. Snowden, veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, and the senior ranking survivor from the Battle of Iwo Jima. He also founded the Reunion of Honor, an annual gathering of Iwo Jima veterans from the U.S. and their Japanese counterparts held on Iwo Jima and Guam. The service in Quantico, Va., was attended by Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. Robert B. Neller and Secretary of Defense Lt. Gen. James N. Mattis (USMC, ret.).
